Arriving in Africa
Jambo! We’ve landed in Zanzibar. We came here last in 2019 and loved it, it is a good place to start our trip through Africa. Zanzibar is also known as the spice island and has a rich history of trade and with it, its own mix of cultures.
We have a couple of days here before we join our tour group through Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia and South Africa. so After checking into the Zanzibar Coffee House Hotel and a quick snooze, we venture into Stone Town. The UNESCO World Heritage designated old town is a maze of busy small streets and little market stalls. It’s also famous for its old doors, many of which are from the Indian traders who owned shops here. We have dinner at the Secret Garden restaurant set in the ruins of an old building, stuffed with plants and broken furniture.
The next day we we take a tour though the markets and craft workshops. Despite Martina’s normal disgust for fish smells she manages to take photos of the fish market and fish auctions. I guess last months Covid has still dampened her senses!

Martina’s checklist. Always check the loo is bolted down before you sit on it, and that the cat hasn’t clawed through one of the two pairs leggings that you brought with you.
